Fort Burnside is located at the southern tip of Conanicut Island within Beavertail State Park. While the park is open year-round, the historical bunkers and the HECP “Mansion” are best viewed during daylight hours.
- Park Hours: Sunrise to Sunset (Daily)
- Admission: Free (State Park Parking)
- Accessibility: The perimeter of the fort is accessible via paved and gravel paths. Some bunker interiors may have uneven terrain.
- The HECP “Mansion”: The primary disguised bunker (now a private residence/restricted area, viewable from the path).
- Battery 213: The massive concrete emplacements that once held 6-inch rapid-fire guns.
- Fire Control Towers: Look for the concrete “observation posts” scattered along the coastline.
Dress for Weather: Beavertail is notoriously windy. Bring a jacket even in summer!
Photography: Handheld photography is encouraged. Please respect all “No Trespassing” signs near active communication equipment.
Pets: Leashed dogs are welcome in the park.
